Spectacle Lenses

Spectacles are thought to have originated from Northern Italy in the 12th century, although there is evidence that the ancient Egyptians used a crude form of spectacle lenses.

Needless to say, modern spectacle lenses have come a long way from those primitive early designs. Nowadays, spectacle lenses can be manufactured in a number of different materials, though about 95% utilise Polymers which offer clearer vision as well being lighter, thinner and safer for the wearer than the old glass spectacle lenses.

The traditional method of grinding spectacle lenses has been replaced by computerised digital surfacing which enables the spectacle lenses to be customised to reduce the visual distortions found in traditionally ground spectacle lenses.

The German lens manufacturer Rodenstock has perfected this technology and utilising their DNEye technology which customises your spectacle prescription with 7000 further measurements to refine the spectacle lenses to the exacting requirements of your eyes

At Personal Eyes Optometry we source our spectacle lenses from Carl Zeiss, Rodenstock, Hoya, Nikon and Essilor.
